GROW VERTICALLY
The are two types of leadership growth
HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL.
VERTICAL growth focuses on upgrading the actual operating system of the leader. Elevating a person’s ability to make meaning of their world in more cognitively and emotionally sophisticated ways.
It centers on BECOMING BETTER. 90%+ of all leadership development efforts are focused on horizontal growth. But, what is widely needed is what Ryan calls vertical development. In fact, research has found that only 8% of all leaders rise to their highest level of vertical development.
Ryan Gottfredson, Ph.D. is a cutting-edge mindset author, researcher, and consultant. He helps organizations vertically develop their leaders primarily through a focus on mindsets. He helps improve organizations, leaders, teams, and employees by improving their mindsets. Ryan is currently a leadership and management professor at the College of Business and Economics at California State University-Fullerton (CSUF). He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources from Indiana University, and a B.A. from Brigham Young University
Ryan is the author of “Success Mindsets: The Key to Unlocking Greater Success in Your Life, Work, & Leadership.” (Morgan James Publishing), and Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Seller.
He also works with organizations to develop their leaders and improve their culture (collective mindsets). He has worked with top leadership teams at CVS Health (top 130 leaders), Deutsche Telekom (500+ of their top 2,000 leaders), and dozens of other organizations.
As a respected authority and researcher on topics related to leadership, management, and organizational behavior, Ryan has published over 15 articles across a variety of journals including: Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Business Horizons, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and Journal of Leadership Studies. His research has been cited over 2,000 times since 2014.
Ryan‘s message helps us explore what vertical development is, identify the different levels of vertical development, and give you direction on how you can elevate to your highest level.

GET GOOD HELP
It’s There for the Taking. Coaching, Counseling,
and the Commitment to Make It Count
DAVID has been coaching and teaching executive leaders since 2001. He “found his feet” in the world of professional training and development by selling services and leading programs for BlessingWhite, Inc. This led to an invitation to join TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company as their first Vice President for Leadership and Organizational Development. He led his team in the establishment of TaylorMade’s Learning Center, the heart of which was a leadership coaching initiative in support of the company’s extraordinary growth from $600M to $1.6B in revenue.
In 2013, having found not only his feet but his head and heart also, he founded RULE13 Learning, LLC to serve leaders who want to be more resilient, more effective and more human in the face of change.
In 2016, he published his first book, A More Daring Life: Finding Voice at the Crossroads of Change.
Later that year, he joined the faculty of California State University San Marcos as a lecturer in the College of Business Administration. He has taught courses in entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation and organizational behavior in addition to advising in the Senior Experience program. In 2017 he was invited to serve as an Executive in Residence, a body of professionals who advise students in a professional and career development curriculum.
David’s work has been featured in the Training Magazine article, “Crafting a Coaching Culture” and I am a past contributor to the International Journal of Coaching in Organizations.
At Municipal, a provider of sport utility gear, David is helping to build a brand and culture that centers on the pursuit of one’s full potential and both inspires and equips people to become “unstoppable” in their potential.
David shares an impactful message on why “right now” is indeed the best time for a fresh start.
